May Live Critiques - Submit Your Blender Art!

Kent Trammell

This May, all Blender Live Events will be dedicated to community critiques. That means each week in May we will select a handful of Citizen Pro members' Blender projects to critique live during a stream.

If you would like the focused eyes and insight of Kent and Jonathan Lampel to help push your Blender Art to the next level, please submit one of your projects to this thread. Both of us specialize in modeling, texturing, shading, and lighting of which we're most apt to critique. But I'm confident I could convince Wayne Dixon to guest-host an animation critique if we get interest in that.

Instructions for Submission:

NOTE: All active Citizen members have access to watch these live critique sessions and submit art to be critiqued in this thread.

  1. Post an image or embed a video to this thread representing your Blender Project for critique.
    • Optionally, if you have multiple images, post a link to your project on cgcookie.com.
  2. IMPORTANT: Please provide context for the project with a description that gives us an idea of what you're trying to achieve.
    • "I'm going for realism but something feels off and you don't know what..."
    • "I'd like to match the style of ______. What should I do to get there?"
  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

tbrbn It's a lot better than it was the last time I saw it.

  • Ataru (ataru) replied

    Hi every one !

I would like to submit one of my recent work :

I was looking to make something "photorealist"  and pratice my modeling skill, so I modeled everything in that scene, looking for reference on internet.

Even though I'm quite happy with the result, i think it lacks something to approch "photorealism", and i would be glad to hear your comments and advices.

    Thank you in advance!

  • Kent Trammell replied

ataru Awesome work ataru! Be prepared for some pixel-level nitpicking critique, since it's already quite good 😊

    Hi,

Since some weeks, i have been working on a level i imagined for an adventure game. I would be glad to hear your comments and critics about it !

    https://www.cgcookie.com/u/asifh/projects/the-hidden-base

I tried to create a kind of underground base connected to a cave.
The ambiance is supposed to be dark and mysterious.
I was not looking for photorealistic result but i easily found photorealistic textures that gave great looking walls and floor. So i have now a mix of very realistic looking parts and quite basic materials for liquids, lights, computers, ...

I can put more screenshot if needed. But impossible to make a video, it takes too long to render it in a decent format.

    Thanks :)

asifh I think there's enough images in the project for a good critique. Thanks for submitting!

  • Thibaut Bourbon(tbrbn) replied

@theluthier no problem ! Will there be an agenda on which order the artwork are going to be critiqued ?

  • Jonathan Lampel replied

mmalhomsi Hmm, I'm not sure if that would work, but I can give it a try!

Hi there, I've been learning blender her for a while now, though I don't often post work this seems like a great way to get some feedback i hope I can catch the streams now.

So in the past few days I put this scene together, I modeled everything but the chairs, I'm using textures from Poliigon I'm hoping they provide that photoreal effect.

I've been thinking I might produce props for sale on the market, and I want to know if my work is up to snuff.

  • Bauke Post(baukepost) replied

Is it also allowed to submit a render of just one 3d model, with feedback more focused on the topology?

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

Hey there, thought I'd throw my latest personal render in, which I created a few weeks ago, simply entitled Nintendo Switch. As I said when I first uploaded it to the gallery it's a mess topologically speaking, but I feel like I've improved on my lighting somewhat in comparison to my older stuff. I'm aware of some problems like the materials being really simplistic and the asymmetrical triggers but any feedback into making this look like the real thing is greatly appreciated. Starting to get into sculpting so hoping I'll forever be improving!

The animation (so you can see problems like the triggers better):

Been doing this kind of stuff consistently since early February so hopefully I'm improving at an adequate pace. Thanks in advance for any feedback I may receive!

I took a reference image, began modeling, texturing and all the other good stuff. Shooting for realistic interior render look. Made two scenes, when the sun is up and at night when there's no one around.

QUESTION ;) Is there a deadline to submit art work?

  • silentheart00 replied

Hi, I've been underground for a while, and would love to participate in this round of critiques, but I'm working on fixing up a house that has no internet during the week, so I'll have to step out.  That's why I haven't been as active lately.  Good luck, everyone!  Stuff looks good so far!

  • Kent Trammell replied

    dostovel Excellent work, Omar 👌

  • Kent Trammell replied

zzachzellman I suppose the only deadline would be to submit by Monday, May 21st to be critiqued for the last stream. Does that make sense?

  • Kent Trammell replied

silentheart00 There will certainly be more critique months in the future. Good luck with the house work. I can relate so hard.

Hey, I'm relatively new to CG but have learnt a great amount from you guys. Thanks again. I made this a sword, as a sort of re-imagining of what a sword from the fire nation (Avatar Last Air Bender) might look like. I tried to get the cross guard similar to their symbol. I will note that I got the textures from the net and just attempted to apply them as best I could, I'm not sure on how to texture much.  Rip it apart :D

Question, Are there rules on how much art we can post in here? or will anyone who posts excess just be largely ignored.

  • Kent Trammell replied

panboy We've not had anyone submit excessively before, but I'd say submitting once per week is fine. Just understand that our first priority will be to critique everyone. But if we don't get that many submissions, we could critique multiple submissions from the same person (once per week).

  • Kent Trammell replied

    panboy Thanks for submitting!
