William Miller's New and Improved Polybook

I have been directed into the world of art by God himself, but I have not been practicing enough to actually get good at it.  When I saw The Habits of Effective Artists by Andrew Price, I knew that I had finally found a way to force myself to fulfill the command and get rid of my laziness.  I will start fresh in this polybook, where I will upload my Blender progress daily.  Each day, I will create stuff with Blender, draw, develop games (probably not with Unity), and compose music.  Eventually, I will use those skills to create movies and games.  I will make sure all of my goals have a direct purpose, which I will publicly announce.

May we all fruitfully produce many beautiful works of art.

Note: The daily uploads might not start tomorrow.  They will start the day after tomorrow for sure, though.

I look forward to seeing your new work :) , great attitude!

Awesome William, I can't wait to see what you produce.

One day in and already I have missed one due to a series of unfortunate events.  I am 99% sure that I'll have some results today, though.

Also, does anyone know of any good drawing courses that I can follow along with in Krita?  The CG Cookie courses assume that I already know a few things, but I'm a complete beginner.

Here's another great site to learn from: https://www.ctrlpaint.com/

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

That looks amazing!  Thank you so much!

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

I finished the first lesson of the rocket course.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

I completed two more lessons yesterday, but I forgot to put a screenshot here.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

    Another day, another lesson.

I should really do this some time other than after midnight; maybe then I'll gt more done.

i wake up at 5 to get hour of good practice down before dayjob. then on the evenings i do what i have energy for. and get bed at 10 at latest. :)

try building a routine for yourself that works (when you are most fresh for learning and adapt your rest of the day accordingly), and don't be too stressed out if you miss day here or there. its about concistency cause life happens and we have responsibilities that neds to be done aswell.

Tomorrow I will actually do some serious animation for the first time.  I can't wait to see how it turns out.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

I did some serious animation.  I can't show it to you, unfortunately.  You'll see when it's done.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

How can I make a completely invisible material?  For some reason the particles completely ignore the cone when it is non-renderable.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  This whole time I had been mistaking the "globally disable in viewports" button with the "disable from rendering" button!  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

...and now I've hit another roadblock.  The collection instance is what is animated, but whenever I try to hide/move the actual rocket (which is not animated), the instance get hidden/moved too.  I've tried unparenting the instance and making it a single user, but it doesn't work.  I tried moving the "real" rocket and then moving the instance back, but the empty and the rocket got moved out of sync in weird ways.  Nothing seems to work.

I fixed it!  I suppose I should have been paying more attention to the videos; Some of them were watched at 2x speed.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

If all goes well, it should be completely rendered by tomorrow afternoon.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

    Well...

I spent nine hours rendering this:

Oh well. I wasn't happy with the color scheme anyway; I'll change it to something less dull.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

    Excuse time!

I spent yesterday with no time or internet access and the day before yesterday editing my latest Youtube video (Just an Ordinary Nursery Rhyme).  That is why you haven't seen anything from me for a while.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

I wasted more render time by not clicking the right buttons.
