Glad to have you in class again, Kaj! :)

    @theluthier

Thanks Kent, you know talked to a friend of this idea for this what i was planning and he brought me back to ground, and rightly so, i do have over tendency to scope creep my projects. so decided that if i really want to focus something i should downscale drastically and do more only if i see i have time. and since you said the chest was ok from the course, i decided to start on that and give it my own twist.

so first days work sofar. 2 planks need to be detailed on the lid and all the metallic parts needs denting.

its good to have friends that can tell you straight away that you should rethink. :D

    louhikarme Super, Kaj!

  • smurfmier1985 replied

louhikarme that’s looking nice already :-D

  • Ingrid Frank(Fide) replied

louhikarme really great chest design! Looks very unique. What does scope creep mean?

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

@fide for example you have an idea that you want to model one thing. then you start adding in lines like "it needs to have this also, and this and this" and soon you have loads of things that you need to model that are unique modeling wise, so the idea itself that could have hold in its own, now had bloat of stuff that is not needed. and this wouldn't be a problem if you have half a year to finish everything.
but when you have this kind of course where you have set goals, and time is limited due dayjob, then its best keep things simple as possible. hope this helps :)

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

    ssmurfmier1985 Thanks Miranda. :)

  • Ingrid Frank(Fide) replied

louhikarme Thanks for the explanation :) I tend to do this as well sometimes :/

  • Kent Trammell replied

"Scope creep" - I relate to that term 👌

louhikarme Your chest is fantastic. Really like the unique take and quality you're achieving. I expect no less for you, sir :)

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

@fide @theluthier i think its my number one weakness that i need to be more aware of. i really need to start telling myself to keep it simple stupid. :D Thanks!

dieterweireldt  silentheart00 cruento Thank you! :)

@theluthier updated the main post on the thread for week1 submission. onto texturing! :)

  • smurfmier1985 replied

louhikarme nice chest! The details look great, and I love the handle on the lid to open it. I think you are indeed ready for texturing :-D

  • spikeyxxx replied

louhikarme Looks great Kaj! Wasn't it fun to do a completely different style than what your used to?

  • Kent Trammell replied

louhikarme This is an exquisite result of the treasure chest project. The details are truly some visual candy. All of it is 💯 but the hardware detail is glorious. Really great work, Kaj. A+ in my book. Cannot wait to see this thing textured 🤩

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

@theluthier thank you! will have something ready for next homework for sure. still battling on making a bigger scene or not. i prolly keep it simple though since i have another project aswell that i need to finish and that one is beast to unwrap compared to this chest. :)
