blender eevee +question about subdivision surface+ modeling building with gateway

hey guys
i have some questions and hope you guys can help me out

1:first of all i noticed blender eevee but i am not sure where to download this ?
anyone know a safe site or how i have to download it ?

2:second i would like to ask about the subdivision surface.
it does make everything smooth. but what if you want a certain edge to stay sharp ? is there a way to do that?
also could you guys tell me how to do this ?

3:and last i am making a school-castle building.
now i am making the gateway and wondering what the best way is to clear out the wall that is inside the gateway in a easy way
this picture might explain what i mean.
gateway picture

i would like to erase the area that is inside the gateway without messing too much with the building.
sometimes there are certain options that makes it so easy.

4:i downloaded the latest blender but when i open my files he open it in the old blender is there a way to fix this ?

hope you guys can help me out with the questions

Hey there, Eevee is part of an experimental version of Blender and is not officially released yet (it's not even in beta yet), so I would hold off on downloading it for now unless you're just super curious and want to try it right away. You can find it here under the 2.8 label: https://builder.blender.org/download

As for #2 and #3, we cover those kinds of things quite extensively in our modeling learning flow: https://cgcookie.com/flow/modeling-in-blender

Lastly, Blender can be downloaded as an installed program or as a portable .exe, and your computer will always open the files with the installed program. When you download it, grab the installer instead of the .zip: https://www.blender.org/download/

    Hope that helps!

229632963 There sure are! The short answers are:

2: Add a second edge loop right next to the original edge to sharpen it up.

3: Add in three edge loops to make a square where the main part of the door is, and delete that square. Then add in five edge loops from the top and pull those up so that the hole matches the shape of the door.

These two courses will answer in much more detail:

    Good luck!
