Clank Final

First time attempting an independent hard surface project :) I'm happy with the results but really struggled to include the indent on the front without distorting the mesh (I've included a wire frame of the area). Any pointers would be really appreciated to help improve for next time!

  • It looks fantastic! I actually plan on going for a robot design soon, and Clank will be one of my reference.

    Awesome render!

tbrbn I have honestly never considered that something doesn't need a subsurf to look smooth! Thanks so much for the tip, this changes everything haha

  • ttomneate Oh ok I see ! I still think you could have get away without any subsurf for most parts since they are pretty flat (aside from the head and feet). That way you could have avoided the loops you created to get the angles on panel line on the chest for example. They aren't bad here but could crease other area of the body. But again the result looks crispy so don't worry too much about it for this one !

tbrbn Hi, thanks for the kind words! I've just realised I was an idiot and took the wire-frames with the subsurf still on (I've just added the intended images). Are there any obvious flaws in the topology around there that you can see? I really struggled with keeping the smooth curve. Also good spot the fingers do intersect their joints, I'll definitely keep that sort of thing in mid for next time. Thanks for the feedback though it's really helpful!

  • Great presentation, I really like the shading and pose! You could improve the topology, there’s many loops that can be removed without harming the mesh :) also it seems the fingers and their joints are intersecting, is that so? That’s minor though, great work!
