Chess Final

Someone said every 3D artist should make a chess set. It is great for different techniques, including sculpting, composition, lighting etc. This is first version of the pieces, chess board and scene will come later. The only piece that took more time is the Horse. I was sculpting using dyntopo for hours (my second attempt at sculpting, the first one was Melvin from CGCookie.com). Finaly it took the shape of a chess horse. It is far from perfect, but I guess it is not that bad.

  • Just like you say, I am not happy with the horse :) I am working on it more, and I will post new version later today. But as this image, the mouth is more human then a horse like. I've also modified the ears slightly, to fit more this style. I'm starting to get grip of sculpting, its fun :)

  • Honestly I don't think a chess steed can be "perfect" just as you sculpted it by hand they where originally crafted by hand as well. There's no standard there, just art, so the real question is if you, the one whom crafted it, is happy with the results relative to your skill and the tools you had to work with.
