I think the main problem with Blender is that its interface is all anyone seems to care about. Nobody seems to care about actual features.

I have daily goals that I grade myself on, keeps me honest.

When it comes to VFX , I agree William.
C4D is very good. But if you want to have all the stuff you can do with Blender, you need the studio version. And that is 3200 EUR.

Ive been messing around with Blender on and off for about 3 years. Its improved greatly in that time. 2.8 will be even better IMO
In Houdini, literally anything can be animated, even how far a face gets extruded.
