Vintage Room: Introduction

A recurring theme of interior vignettes is showing rooms in a more vintage state, dark wood tones paired with atmospheric lighting focused on simple objects. For this project we're blurring the line between archviz and still life, and shifting the vintage further into the forgotten.

That also lets us focus on telling a story with the scene rather than simply depicting an object. Modeling drops to the bare basics of building the room, and available assets bring it to life. The only materials we create from scratch are the plaster and the paint. Everything else is based on what the assets already come with, and then we make it look old, dirty, and dusty.

What really makes the atmosphere is the lighting paired with a volume to get dusty god rays dancing in the light, then a particle system for actual physical dust. Compositing takes on a bigger role here, combining render layers and multiple types of glare with a stronger color shift to push the vibe.
