Adding a large forest

Hi everybody,

So I want to add a forest around my castle, but when I place more than 50 trees around it, Blender freezes or crashes. Is there a smarter way to add trees and nature around? My trees are high poly.

Thanks :)

    Hi!

How High poly? Maybe they can be reduced a bit.

I once used the technique of "billboards". You just render a couple of trees head-on and then use, then just add them to plane.

Ian Huberts shows the technique in like 10 seconds of the video

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers!

You can also set your trees to be displayed in the viewport as bounding boxes before duplicating them, so it won't take up much memory until render time. Also try to either use particles or Alt+D instead of Shift+D to make an instance - that will also save you a lot of memory.

Looks great! Maybe I would add some extra trees on the left side to make it look more dense.

    Great job!
