Pls help!-Random Sci-fi details and kitbashing - Making a scifi city

Hi!

I am looking for some advice on how to approach building a large modular sci-fi city for an open-world game.

I started with making a general block out of one of the buildings, just getting the shape in.

Should I create a library of random objects?

Or should I create now a trim sheat?

To be honest I am lost now :\

Any suggestions much appreciated!!

Thanks

I would create a library of modular house/building pieces and of stuff to litter the streets with, sort of like a reusable LEGO set with which you can build many many things 😊. And I would definitely go with mostly trim sheets and tiling textures, especially if you go big scale (like open world).

These two YouTube playlists by game environment artist Tim Simpson should give you a good idea on how to approach your environment, as well as how a good understanding on how to use and create trim sheets:

Also this talk from this years blender conference might be helpful:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi!

    Thanks

I will probably make a couple of sets:

    1. big buildings (I will make 3 buildings and then remix them to create +-5 more)-they will be mostly background meshes anyway

2.Modular building set: walls, doors, crates all kind of sci-fi-ish stuff

Since the planet is Coruscant(Star Wars) I will probably make another set of just props like crates, panels, holographic panels etc...

Cleaned out all my beginner work to make room for new stuff, which as you noticed I’m still working on ;)
