Artifacts after using Displacement modifier

posted to: Baking the Normals

Hi there,

I would like to ask you. I was following your tutorial but when it comes to Displacing the cage object i can see visible artifacts and i was unable to clear them in anyway.

There are no double vertices, there is no additional geometry, no issues visible on original geometry (the one without displacement modifier) and all vertices are co-planar

is there some other way how to do this cage? Like oneby one every object just scale a little bit for example?
This displacement method always shows so many artifacts i am desperate :D

Thank you very much master

Hey, good question! This distortion is an issue, and it's caused by the fact that the mesh has to be inflated so every surface can't remain parallel. Around 18:50 in the video I add a Subdiv modifier, and that should keep any distortion to a minimum. This process is also shown in the Normal Map Modeling for Games course.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Master yeah it was not so critical. There were still some visual artifacts o nthe cage model but no issues in the normal map.
At least not related to this one. Thank you! :)
