Blender 2.8 - The leg bone constraints controls both legs

Hello,

Sorry but I don't know why I can't move the right leg using the right constraints. Could you please help me understanding what I did? The left constraints are moving the entire lower part of the body (legs).

Thanks in advance,

    Hello,

I was playing with the file again and I found that if I use Ctrl + P with automatic weights again after symmetrize the bones for the right leg the model works properly. I had to paint (weight) again the area near the pelvis.

    Hi Luis,

It is because you are using a mirror modifier to mirror the vert groups but the vert group it is trying to mirror into does not exist.

eg - if the "Leg.R" vert group does not exist it will mirror "Leg.L" across to that side.

But if it does exist, it knows to mirror the weights in the .R group.

When you auto weight paint, Blender will create all the vert groups according to the bone names that are set to deform.

Hope that helps - here's a screen shot of the left shin weight group.  See how it is mirrored over to the other side because the .R group doesn't exist.

    Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the answer. Could you please upload the screenshot? I don't know where is it. Also, I understood the mistake, related with the vertex groups.

The explanation related with the auto weight paint was very important, now I understand why that worked fine at this point.

    Cheers,

    L

Sorry, forgot to attach the image.

I think you have figured it out, but so you see how both sides are red because the mesh doesn't have a .R vertex group to mirror the weights into (so it mirrors the .L to the other side)
