Collaborations

Hello all,

This is my first model!!  Whew!  I leaned heavily on the Treasure Chest lesson for the workflow and modeling. I am working my way through the Mesh Fundamentals and Mesh Bootcamp courses and decided to give modeling the barrel a try. Tough, but a great experience!! I came to CG Cookie by the way of You Tube. I watched Jonathan Lampel's video on the modeling bootcamp lessons. As I watched, I continuously nodded my head and kept repeating: "yep that's me." So, I jumped into the CG Cookie batter and am hoping to eventually become a real cookie.

Welcome to CG Cookie!  My main critique is that the wood on the top of the barrel looks bend in a weird way, as if whoever made it had bent the planks t make the lid lower.

Hello, and welcome!  The barrel looks pretty good, and depending on how stylized you want to go, you can push it more!  I do have to agree the caps of the barrel look strange, but not quite sure why.  Maybe they're too far inset compared to the other barrels I've seen.  Overall, good effort.

williamatics Thank you William Miller and Silentheart00 For the kind welcome. Also, thank you both for taking the time and providing me with feedback.  I see what you are saying and agree. I think the problem came when I extruded the cylinder. I struggled extruding the cylinder while giving it thickness.  When I extruded the barrel, the top extruded downward and bottom upward instead of straight across.  So instead of having a nice lip, there is a weird angle. At the outset, I chose to not have a cap fill, and I created the lids later.

    Homework  submission week 1

Hey Kent, I thought that I submitted this on Sunday. I am admittedly and embarrassedly flailing around the process of getting this in. It is perfectly fair if you count this as too late(which it is). I finally figured it out and wanted to get it right. Thanks

wwinston1 So sorry for the late reply; my week has been crazy busy.

Hey, we've all been there.  We try this one way, doesn't go exactly to plan and we don't know why, and that's okay.  It's a learning process.  Heck, sometimes if I get way too in the weeds where I'm trying to save the model than improve it, I delete the whole thing and start again.  It sounds extreme, but it's also kind of freeing.  And now you know what to avoid next time.  It's okay to make mistakes.  As long as you learn something along the way, the time isn't wasted.  You got this.
