CGCookie Tutorials and Blender 2.8

Hi,

I'm pretty new to CGCookie. I'm mainly interested i learning Blender at this time. I have finished some of the initial courses using Blender 2.8 that is the version of blender I want to use. The problem is that when I have reached texture/lighting tutorials I've started to feel like it would be better to stop and wait for the 2.8 tutorials. For example internal blender render enigne has been discontinued. Eevee is now the one that must be used and things are setup totally different.

On the other hand I though I could follow the "only modeling" tutorials in the meantime (waiting for the 2.8 tutorials to appear), but don't know if I will be able to traslate the knoledge of the sculping modules for example and don't want to waste time.

So, do you think it is a good idea to wait for the new 2.8 tutorials before getting into 3D computer graphics using CGCookie blender tutorials?

Cheers.

Hi, I think it's definetly worth it to start learning even without 2.8 tutorials. You can skip some parts like texturing or lighting if you want but the things you'll learn in terms of 3D modeling or sculpting are very fundamental things and apply to other programs like Maya or 3DS Max as well. The only annoying part  for me when I used 2.8 for the first time was the change of the shortcuts but after a week I was pretty familiar with them. You definetly won't have to learn new modeling techniques when you switch from 2.79 to 2.8. The course that helped me the most (and I've started to watch a ton of tutorials and courses in the last year) as a complete beginner was the Blender Mesh Modeling Bootcamp Course so if you can you should give it a try.

what you will find as you gain experience is that the principles of modelling/sculpting are the same whatever tool (such as blender or maya) you chose to use...

for rendering blender internal is being phased out in 2.8 but cycles remains...

as stated by Julian there is some rearranging (blender coming into alignment with the rest of the software world) of where the tools are located and the default condition of left click select...

by all means jump right in the water is fine...

    hope you find this helpful

If you decide that you can not wait: Youtube is already showing various tutorials on the early Blender 2.8.

I agree with the others; the concepts and principles are transferable between tools.  Employers don't care what tool you use as long as you know how to make the product.  It's like learning to play an instrument; once you know how to read music, it doesn't matter what instrument you play.  Sure, you'll have to make some adjustments to that specific instrument, but you know 80% of musical concepts already.  Honestly, what's taught in 2.7 is very translatable to 2.8.  Sure, there are some UI and shortcut changes, but again, you already know how to model, you just need to learn the tool's quirks. You got this.
