Blender Artifacts

Hi there!

Just a novice blender user looking for some advice. I'm trying to make a robot character and there is some weird artifacts showing up on my model in places where it should be smooth. Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

still a beginner myself (Third week) but does smooth shadinghelps?

It looks like there simply isn't enough geometry there, so try adding a subsurface modifier and crank it up to 2.

yyukinoh1989 I think Aaron might be right. I don't think there is enough geometry there. I think I need to use a subsurface modifier or add some more loop cuts. That's the problem you run into with mouth bits. They require a lot of detail XD lol.

awesome so its fixed then what are mouth bits?

I would also fix the topology: notice how where you're having the shading issue the mesh has non-quad faces (i.e more than 4 faces,a.k.a as ngons). Fixing them might as well help.

Though using a suburf modifier automatically turns the ngons in quads, you might still have shading issue as it will create a pole.

yyukinoh1989  yea I still gotta work on it more though. I'm sorry. I just call it mouth bits. I just mean when creating facial features that are going to be really detailed, it usually requires a lot of geometry.
