    Good work.

  • smurfmier1985 replied

shiennar That must have been a lot of work, awesome once again 😊

  • Katerina Novakova(shiennar) replied

ssmurfmier1985 Thank you. :-) And yes, it was - it took quite a lot longer than I expected. But then again, I'm not a very experienced sculptor (this is my third character - and first one intended as realistic). I hope I'll get better at making them, though. Most of my short film ideas have some sort of characters in them...

  • smurfmier1985 replied

shiennar I think you're well on your way, never would have guessed that you didn't have much experience! 😊

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

had originally wanted to sculpt a horse - until the instructions changed. But with the ingenious help of Mr Old Dog , I was able to reconcile the two.

    Very nice work :)

    shiennar Looks great, well done.

  • smurfmier1985 replied

nekronavt Heh heh that picture is spot on 😆

  • Grady Pruitt(gradyp) replied

    Wow, shiennar ! Awesome centaur!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

shiennar Oh wow that's a nice head! Quite well done, great submission!

    oh...

    Oh...

    OH.

I have no idea how you have the skill and time management knawledge to nail it every week but you just keep on keeping on. I'm honestly a little scared as to what you have in store for us next week, but I know for a fact it'll be consistently amazing.

  • Katerina Novakova(shiennar) replied

thecabbagedetective :-D I love reading your comments, Aaron, they always make me laugh (I'm still giggling as I write this). But I also have to admit that I'm little scared this week myself. (I haven't decided what to make yet... and the clock is ticking.)

As to the time management - it really helped me to start making one blog post per week (with a new render every time). It takes the pressure off deciding *if* I want to make something and puts it squarely on *what on earth am I going to make this week?*

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to plead with the gods of creativity to send a few inspiration particles my way...

  • Kent Trammell replied

shiennar Your homework submissions never disappoint, Kate. Glad you gave 2.8 a shot with your primitives. And my apologies about the homework switch - I caused some unnecessary confusion. I.e. if you just did a horse that would have been fine but I didn't explain that well.

Anyhoo, you did a really nice job on both your head sculpt and the rest of the centaur! A+ for the week 👍

  • Zsolt Cseh(csehz) replied

shiennar Katerina you would deserve some extra credit for the flexibility of combining the two sculpture in one homework :D The idea was also brilliant, but the biggest thing is achieving it

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

shiennar Why ta, I aim to please! The thread has gone quiet again though, that can only mean one thing... the inspiration was found...

    Homework Week 4

When I was hunting for inspiration this week, I put together a short list of boxes I wanted to tick. The ideal project would:

    1. Let me use both mesh modelling and sculpting
    2. Let me improve my detail sculpting
    3. Give me something challenging (but manageable) to work on
    4. Serve as a basis for future project(s)

It took me three days but I think I found it. First, here is the reference I used.

And now my take on it. Eh. Not happy with many areas (I'm looking at you, weird-shaped and impossible-to-get-right corner thingies!) but I think I managed to do all I set out to do.

First, the Blender (2.8) matcap views:

And now the Substance Painter ones (I was mostly using MultiRes, so UV unwrapping was not too bad, but with the corner thingies I had to do an unexpected retopo):

I hope that next week I'll be able to show you what's inside the box. :-)

shiennar  this really is beautifull . tis really pretty love the design

  • Zsolt Cseh(csehz) replied

shiennar Katerina you are able to always come up with some extra, when entering to your thread I feel already some excitement what will be that.

I think it looks great again and yes it could be the next level what is hidden there :-)

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

shiennar Oh come ON, you can't keep impressing us this consistently, it's just not mathematically possible. In all seriousness though this is great as always! Not sure if I asked before but how long have you been doing the whole 3D stuff?

  • Katerina Novakova(shiennar) replied

thecabbagedetective Thank you very much :-) Hmm, let me check. I started doing the weekly thing in April 2017, so it will be a year and a half soon. I had a few on-and-off encounters with Blender before that but I never got further than a few beginner's tutorials. Well, eight years and a half more and I can start calling myself an accomplished artist. :-)

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

shiennar Damn, you're not far ahead of me in terms of experience, at least it doesn't feel like it, I need to work harder to meet your level lol. You got a strong future ahead of ya in 3D, not that you need me to tell you that.

  • Katerina Novakova(shiennar) replied

thecabbagedetective Hah, I bet I'll feel the same about your submission tomorrow when I'm making the final reel (that's the only downside of it - I can't go see people's homework before Monday because I'd lose track of the unread posts). This class shows that you've made some huge leaps in the past month alone. I already have some serious competition on the rise. But you don't need me to tell you that. :-)
