Hard surface topo Help.

I'm not sure how to re-do the topology here to get rid of this lighting issue. I know the topology has to change but I'm not sure in what way. If anyone has any ideas as to make this flow better I'd be super appreciative!

The wireframe of the problem area. See attachment for problem area.

Could you show me the wireframe and/or blend file?  I don't know how to help you with the information you've given me.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

How did you do that "before" I asked for it?

  • Goose Gosling(n3b) replied

    williamatics I'm just that good.

n3b I can't really tell what the issue is without a .Blend. If you do post it, I'd be happy to take a look.

n3b Same, I can see that the problem is that 5 sided pole that sits right between where the sides, top speaker, and bevel meet, but I'd have to mess with the file in order to find the right solution.

williamatics, baukepost, @jlampel, I've attached the blend file with the body of the speaker. Thanks for looking into this for me :)

I'm not an expert at hard surface, but if I had to guess it would probably help to squeeze the circular topology inward, and make it so you have several strips of perfectly smooth polygons running down next to the sharp edges. Right now, the topology isn't clean near the edges of the box which may cause problems.

But the others can probably get back to you with a more precise answer.

(Also hello fellow bird, I like your avatar)

Hey n3b , I gave it a look, and really didn't find a whole lot to fix. The biggest thing was just continuing the edge loop from the chamfer up and into the rounded part of the speaker, as well as reducing the overall polycount wherever possible to keep things simple.

@jlampel Awesome! Thanks a lot, I don't know why I hadn't addressed that. The flow is a huge improvement  topology wise in the problem area and I'm getting better results visually. Much appreciated :).
