Suggestions for new courses

Wouldn't it be an idea to open a pinned thread in which users could suggest things/ topics they would like to learn more about? There propably would be a huge variety of ideas and a course takes some time but it might be helpful for instructors to see if a large amount of users want to learn more about a specific topic. I for example would love to learn more about creating game assets (similar to the weapon course) or how to build an atual scene full of assets. Also a course on how to create an interior visualization and use textures and lighting to make it look as photorealistic as possible (similar to the architectual visualization course) would be awesome.

Just an idea on how the website could be improved.

    I noticed one of the recent tutorials using Substance Painter to texture a weapon. Any chance in the future of getting more courses specifically geared towards texturing for games? and with substance designer / painter no less? 

    I feel like it's the biggest thing I'm missing in the pipeline and it could probably have it's own learning flow since it's such a huge aspect for games.

    cptken I use Substance Painter for all my texturing needs and I believe Jonathan Lampel uses it quite often (he's done all the Substance Painter courses so far). I think if we can get Kent on board we'd see more Substance tools in the workflows for sure. 

    I'm  getting up to speed with game art myself and I'd like to have some dedicated courses on texturing specifically for games as it is indeed a different and in depth area.

    @cypherslock  I like the fluid idea, but that's something that Jonathan Lampel and Kent would delve into. Lampel has worked on particle effects and fluid systems before so he'd probably be up to it.

    Probably more up jgonzalez alley, but is there a tutorial or course that teaches me how to import and set up rigs and animations from Blender to Unity properly?

    There is a course where you use the Unity internal animator functions, but I'd like to know how I can use my actions that I made in Blender. Currently looking through Youtube in search for that, but oh well...

    //Update, nevermind I figured it out for the most part. Just need to understand how to actually set up the animations properly and use them.

    @elensanima This course goes over the basics: https://cgcookie.com/course/fundamentals-of-rigged-animations I've been wanting to go more in-depth on a course like this especially with a Blender component to it. Unfortunately Blender rigging/animation isn't my strong suit so I was hoping to work along side Wayne on something like that. A game rigging/animation course would be awesome, but would definitely need someone who is quite skilled on the rigging/animation side specifically for games. 

    I've gone over the topic using premade rigs here and there, mostly through some old live streams that I'd have to look up. If you have any specific questions on the topic let me know.

    jgonzalez Ah, I see. Yeah I figured as much. I managed to properly import and get my Blender animations working in Unity so now I can work alongside your Unity Animation courses. :) Thanks a lot though!

    Request: I would like to see a course in Motion Graphics.

    I'm thinking about title animations specifically, but also things like tracking an arrow or circle to outline a thing. I see all sorts of motion graphics in videos I watch and I would love to use them in the videos I make, if I knew how.

    Of all the nodes for texturing and the various parts of the Principled shader, the one that I struggle with and seem to find little info on to help with the understanding of just how to use it effectively is the sub surface scattering. I think I kind of understand some of it, but other parts I feel like I struggle to understand when (and how) to use it.

    uunm47 Have you seen our Scifi Helmet Course? https://cgcookie.com/course/modeling-a-sci-fi-helmet it has hard surface sculpting although it is a bit of an advanced course.

    jgonzalez After the modeling learning flow I want to dive into gamedev & animation. Would love to learn how to make something like the short Adam in Unity. Don't think there's a course on cgcookie on this yet? correct me if I'm wrong :-D

    a realistic human texturing in substance painter.  there is lighting live streams, realistic modeling course, animation but no texturing.

    There is one course I would love to see: Curves!

    I know there are several videos on Youtube that explain the curve tool in Blender, but there are no in depth-courses where it is only about curves. I would love to learn curve tool in a wide variety. Especially when I want to model with real life measurements. Also exercises, where I could learn to master curve handles (and how their segments works). I already tried to understand curves from reading the blender manual...but naaaahhh....totally boring and it doesn't help me when it comes to the practice part.

    How to make micro-shorts

    Like the awesome new Halloween Melvin in a Box clip! From coming up with good ideas till finished product, ready for posting on social media. 

    Guess it's a bit like the Piero course.. but this seems like a lot smaller to tackle projects, much more manageable to do on your own (maybe I'm wrong and it's exactly the same as Piero's process, then pretend I never mentioned this).

    Would be cool to learn this with Unity too, like the gifs jgonzalez made for the shader school (the hologram & Melvin with fat belly & growing sheep gifs were pretty cool!).

    Hmmm.... I know that Unity is mostly taught from a game perspective here... but what about a flow (not a course but a flow as it would be too big for just a course),  on creating a short film with Unity/Blender/Substance Designer/Painter?

    @cypherslock @smurfmier Short film production in Unity is something I'd like to tackle in the future. It's definitely a lot of work, but I think a lot of it would mostly be setting up the right shots and using special post processing and animation tools. Unity is introducing some new tools that I'm quite excited about. They recently announced the Visual Effects Graph: https://unity.com/visual-effect-graph that has an impressive demo video. There's also a new CineCast tool coming out which is made by the same group behind Cinemachine 

     CineCast creates cinematic movie-like footage of variable 3D scenarios in real-time.


    Unity has been pushing more and more into short films so it's something I'd like to explore. I had ideas on creating short cinematic trailers. So yes it's something on my radar, especially if with the new tools coming down the line. It would be quite fun to create short films, even something as short as the recent Halloween promo we put out.
