Object tracking using survey shot

I am learning 3D tracking in Blender, I have been using footage from Hollywood camera to practice. I am trying to track the virtual sword but I am having some issues when it rotates. The footage says to try using the survey shot, but I have no idea how to use a it.

Can anyone help me explaining how a survey shot works?

This is the link https://www.hollywoodcamerawork.com/tracking-plates.html just scroll down and will see the Virtual sword.

Thanks in advance and cheers!

Hey Miguel, I gave it a look, but I haven't used survey shots before so I'm just as curious as you are. Does this video help?

Hi Jonathan! Yes! But what I did for that particular shot was to track the survey shot, just put on some markers and export them to 3ds max to create a mesh that will work as proxy mesh, then track the main shot, add the proxy and made constraints to the correspondent vertex.

In this video is explained that last process.
