Can I use this is 2.8 ?

Yes the file opens fine in 2.8 but GUI scripts seem to be broken and need updating. Also the rig is super slow unless you disable the subsurf modifier on the model.

These files have officially been updated to work with 2.8!

I would just say that in the tutorial video above, when opening the 2.80 file in blender

    1. I get a popup message telling me not to allow activation of the scripts.

    2. When linking from a blank file, the video refers to a "Group" folder where I can point to the rig the rig from, but there is no folder of that name in the place specified. Perhaps something has changed for this version? Would be nice to have a note about it in the video.

Can't actually find the equivalent object to open for linking in 2.80+

Edit: According to this blog post, "Groups" are replaced with the concept of "Collections" https://code.blender.org/2018/05/collections-and-groups/

However, when I go to link the Rivet_rig in collections I just get a "Plain Axes" marker and see only a child collection icon in the outliner.

Edit 2: I'm an idiot: I'm in blender 2.9. Wondering if these rigs will be updated to use 2.9?

    Hey hhilariouscow ,

When linking Rivet into a scene, link the RIVET collection not the Rivet_rig. This will give you the GEO (geometry) and the rig.

To use the rig you next need to make a proxy.

To do this immediately after linking the RIVET collection, click OBJECT > RELATIONS > MAKE PROXY and select Rivet_rig from the pop up.

Now you can switch to pose mode and animate Rivet.
