Efficiency of using Inset

Hi,

was there any specific reason you used the Inset tool instead of removing the top face alltogether and then Extruding the entire cup out- or inwards?

Obviously that would have to happen before you model the handle, but is there a downside to extruding the entire mesh like that?

It would save the time it took to readjust the inner edgeloops to match the outer ones, no?

Sure, if you did that before making the handles, it would be faster! I can't think of any downside that would have.

Does that mess up the normals?  It looks to me like if you extrude the back face of a plane then the normals end up backwards, but I'm not sure.

It might initially, but you can correct them pretty quickly with Ctrl+N (Make Normals Consistent).
