"Bridge between our texture map and geometry"

In the video u said

"Something that we can do to help our textures, to act as a bridge between our texture map and our geometry is to bake a map".

Do i get it that: since were baking lightning information into a generated texture, this texture will be assigned to the (already laid out) UV's. But whats the definition of "texture map", if the the texture is the "bridge". Just the specific coordinates for our texture to align them to our UV's?

Also my Model of the pancake is all white when i enter Texture paint mode, showing me an error: Missing materials, textures detected. How can i fix that? (Blender 2.79)

Maybe im just struggling because english isn't my first language but i would really like to deepen my understanding!

Ok fixed the texture paint mode issue: In Blender 2.79 u can change the Painting Mode from "Materials" to "Image" in the Tool Bar.

Dont know if this was possible in past versions but well its working and displaying my strokes in the Image Editor aswell.

"Texture Map" and "Texture" and "Image Texture" are all terms for the same thing. Which is simply an image file that's designed to coordinate with a model's UV's. When I said "bridge the geometry and textures by baking a map" I meant that since the baked texture map is based on geometric data, it helps to associate the textures with the model better. It helps the two work better together.

Blender has changed it's method of texture painting since releasing this course. So it's understandable for you to be confused. I'm actually more impressed that you're understanding so well with English not being your first language!
