precision hub caps

posted to: Modeling a Wheel

Hello,

I was wandering how do you make sure your hub caps are perfect for the array?

im constructing the hub cap part, then array it and finally spin it with the "empty" to form the rim/hubcap. however when i do this it is always slightly off with the spacing of the spokes. visually its just wrong and im struggling to get a perfect circle.

did you model from a picture or use some other technique to make sure the "star" in your hub cap was perfect for the array and empty to spin it into the full hub cap?

thank you

Hey, try working backwards from a perfect circle:

    • Divide 360 by your number of spokes
    • Take that number and rotate your empty exactly that many degrees
    • Adjust your model to fit precisely, and use Merge First / Last
    Hope that helps!
