You're saying that holding SHIFT does not switch your brush to the Smooth brush?

I have the same issue. I expect hitting SHIFT while in Inflate/Deflate brush would cause the image of the brush (as seen in the video) to momentarily change images (and thus brushes) to the smooth brush. v2.78

Though, oddly enough I think the smooth brush is still active (it just doesn't indicate it in the brush select area)
