Polybooks

I think I went a little to far with the lighting... ^

Hey I just ordered that book, a friend recommended it, she said I'd love it. We'll see when I read it.

I love it so far, just started the 4th book. It ticks each and every one of my boxes.

  • Omar Domenech replied

Wait there's more than one book? How do I know which one I bought? I don't want to start it in the wrong book without realizing it. I bought this one:

That's part one. ^^ Afaik there are to be ten books, eight are already published.

(Edit: If you're just a little bit like me, you'll be SO hooked and not able to read anything else... ^^⁾

  • Omar Domenech replied

Ok I'm glad it's the first one, thanks for letting me know. We'll see what happens once I start it.

Jonathan's hard modeling challenge from the Core course. My first try to model it without watching the tutorial. ^^ I did get some things not as exactly as in the original AND I did slip up pretty major and do hide it with lighting. Can you spot where I failed? ^^

  • Omar Domenech replied

Maybe the bevels are very sharp? Feels like the edges are knives edge. But don't worry, most of the time the mistakes are less visible than we think, that's because we made the model and we hyper focused on every little detail, the audience it's not so aware, unless it's like a too obvious thing.

Can't see any major hickups to be honest.

The only thing is, that the top row of holes on the side are half covered up, which is not ideal of course.

Omar: I left the outer case generally unbeveled, in fact I forgot about them, because it was late and I had to sleep.

And I'm not too proud of the small holesies either, they're way too big and Martin is right: I should've looked a bit closer at the margins in general.

But the major f***-up are the big beveled holes I cut left and right into the hull, then I n-goned them together and as soon as the damage was done I wasn't in the mood anymore make proper topo or re-do it another time. I pretty much hid them with proper lighting. ^^ Now let's see how Jonathan did 'em. ^^

Jonathan set it straight. So many mistakes, but now it's done. sd-case-jonathan.pngThe modeling didn't take quite as long as deciding how to light and render it. XD

"Model your own cup." cup-delft-plaque.pngI like cups.

(If anyone wants to use some delftware for UV-mapping: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delfter_Blau#/media/Datei:Delftware_plaque_with_the_Prophet_Elijah_fed_by_the_Ravens.jpg)

Almost feels like the part where you hold the cup, is the tail of the bull. Looking great 🤙🏼
