Different result from the tutorial when using Inset Boundary (17:40)

posted to: Modeling the Body

Hi,

I'm following the tutorial, and I'm referring to 17:40 in the video.

When the instructor presses I and then B (Boundary), the inset works correctly and the geometry stays clean.

Instructor's result:

When I follow the exact same steps, pressing I works fine. However, as soon as I press B, the left side of the inset starts overlapping/intersecting.

My result:

Could you please let me know what I'm doing differently or if there's an issue with my topology?

    Hi Bsam,

There is probably an issue with your Topology.

The usual suspects are 'double Vertices' and/or inconsistent Normals.

Go back to before the Inset and Select All with A and then M > Merge > By Distance, directly followed by SHIFT+N (to fix the Normals). Then try again.

Let us know if it still doesn't have the desired result.

    You're a legend 👑

That fixed it Turns out I had 3 duplicate vertices. I never would've thought to check that.

Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it
