character don't get parented

hi wayne

I am rewatching the course and applying its techniques on my character

I built the rig form rigify but when I parent the mesh to the armature with automatic weights it refuse to do it

    Hi Samy,

Rigify works differently than building from scratch.
You place the bones where you want them. Make sure each component has the right settings.
Then you 'generate' the control rig.

The meta rig holds all the information that you want to build.  You don't bind that to the mesh.  You bind the generated rig.
You then go back and forth on the meta rig and change the settings and regenerate if something doesn't work they way you intend.

It's a different kettle of fish.
But I wonder....who are these people putting these fish in the kettle.

There are a couple of things that will cause issues later. The reason it's not auto-weighting is you're getting Bone Heat Weighting error.

    1. Apply scale(Ctrl+a->scale) on both the armature and the mesh. I'd also recommend that you apply the location and rotation on the mesh to prevent animation problems.
    2. Clear the parent(alt+p->Clear Parent) on both mesh and armature.
    3. Scale each by 100(S->100->enter). Make sure both the armature and the mesh are scaled by 100. Then parent them with auto-weight.
    4. Select the armature, and clear the scale(Alt+S). Just the armature.
    5. Select the mesh and clear the scale. It will look like the mesh disappears. That's supposed to happen.
    6. Clear the inverse table.(Alt+p->clear inverse or clear parent inverse depending on your blender version)
