Scaling along x axis can't see vertices.

posted to: Outlining the Shape

When I put an edge loop in and then try to scale them out I can not see anything because of the red x axis line...

I have no idea why when in the video you can see them perfectly fine. It's quite frustrating. I don't want to have to change the pixel size of the vertices or move the x axis line just to do this, especially when according to this video it should work just fine by default...

    Hi Ken,
I have a feeling that you might still be in face select mode (3)
Try switching to vertex selection mode (1) and you should be able to better see those vertices.

I know it can seem frustrating when you get yourself into a confusing situation, but what you are describing is actually the learning process.
You got stuck, figured out how to move forward (hopefully the hint above helped), and then you know even more than you did.

If you run into, and overcome enough hurdles - then suddenly you're an expert.

    Keep going Ken.
    You got this!

    Hi Ken kken-s ,

Like Wayne said, you are not in Vertex Select Mode. (You're in Face or Edge Select Mode.)

I would recommend you also have a look at this: https://cgcookie.com/community/21922-can-t-see-vertices-when-resizing-edge-loops-with-s-x

Just in case you run into that issue, after you've switched to Vertex Select Mode. (But it sounds like you've already read that.)

I did seemingly get it to work. I had made sure to change to vertex select before I did the loop cut, but you mentioning to make sure made me pay a little more attention and I noticed that when doing the loop cut it puts me back into edge select. I had to "confirm" the edge loop either by left or right clicking then do the scale along the x axis in order for it to work. It's still a bit hard to see but you can for sure see the vertices after doing it that way.

I apologize if I came off a bit hot. The little things can really get under my skin, especially when they keep happening, and even more especially when I have a clear example in front of me, that I'm trying to follow, where that seemingly is not happening and I can't seem to figure it out. I'm sorry if that came across at all in my message. I hate that.

    Hi Ken,

Yes making a Loop Cut with CTRL+R always put you into Edge Select Mode. That is, unless you make a Loop Cut on an Edge, instead of through one (or more) Face(s), meaning cutting an Edge that is not connected to any Faces. then it stays in whatever Mode you're in.

About that last part, it's understandable, but it will probably happen again..more than once, sorry.
