Modeling a cannon

Question Modeling

Hi there so thought i could get some feedback. Just sometime I overthink on these but wanted to show the progress on this cannon to see if it look good and if the topology is fine. Just the topology on the side of it is something i learned but i might not be applying it to the right place.  I will say this is meant to be a game ready asset so i plan to take the high poly and bake into low poly using the bevel and subdivision.question.png

Overall it feels good to me. One important piece of information is, if the model is for game or any other thing? Because some parts feel low poly, as if the intent is to be used on a game, other parts feel super high poly. And if you can go high poly, then you don't need the low poly stepping arches and curves you have, you can subdivide and go high definition.

Ahh good to know. I will say this model is yes for a game that is for sure.  So my plan was to make it high poly with the bevel and subdivision, and then i plan to remove the modifier and then use those low poly and bake the high in substance painter.

Ok in that case you can go all in with the high poly details and all that stepping you see in the curved profiles in the model, get that to look buttery smooth. You can see it in the base circle and the kind of cemetery crypt looking side parts.

Ah i see that. Got it. Another question. If i'm going to make it more smooth, wouldn't i need to change that center part because if i use subdivision on it has it where it curves things up and makes it a mess

That huge Ngon in the middle shouldn't be a problem, since it's on a flat surface. You have to keep an eye out for any funky geometry, if you add subdivision, you need to have the underlying geometry to support good topology. So make sure to check your mesh all around.

    Ah got it. Thank you.
