Extrude edges?

Question Modeling

Hi!

I have another modeling question.

I want to extrude the outer edge of my model to get a "frame" around the whole plane that's proportional? to the current model. Is there any way to do this without getting the ugly overlap of edges?

The result I'd like:

There are two edges overlapping each other ,you can just delete vertices in the middle.

The 'cleanest' way, I know, is to Extrude the Boundary down, then Extrude the outside Face Loop along the Normals (ALT+S, S for Offset Even). Then Delete extra Vertices:

    Oh,

There is also an Addon: Edit Mesh Tools, that you can use:

(You'll need to Install it from Get Extensions). Then you can simply Bridge Edge Loops after that.

...and if you use that Addon, you can even set it to Extrude, so you don't need to do a Bridge Edge Loop afterwards:

Also keep in mind that a lot of times some operations will give you dirty results, because of tiny things or unpredictable things like normals or poles and stuff, or just the way the geometry is built. So in those cases some manual tweaking will be necessary. So in short, not always the tools will give you that mechanical pitch perfect we're looking for and we'll have to adapt.

Yea, I tried to do a bit of deleting vertices and tweaking, I'm just not very good at getting a nice result yet, haha. But I'm trying :)

I got the exstension and it works great! :)

Thanks for the help, everyone! Appreciate it!
