Lattice and Shrinkwrap

Question Modeling

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to shrinkwrap an object to a sphere. I have it in a lattice with a resolution of 1 in the V (Y). Then shrinkwrapped to the sphere with the settings you can see here. It snaps on perfectly until I try to move it around, then it skews and flips. Any ideas? Thanks.rownie Wireframe.pngBrownie 1.png27 at 8.13.54 AM.png

It could be where your origin point is. It should be at the base f the mesh and in the picture you can't tell where it is. Other times is just Blender misbehaving. But one thing I like to do if it gets crazy like that is to have the sphere underneath with much more topology so I subdivide it a lot just so there's enough vertices to latch on to. Try both those things and see if it works.

Is the lattice parented to the moving mesh?

Are you using a Shrinkwrap Modifier or are you using Snapping?

Are you trying to snap the Mesh or the Lattice, or both?

Is there any Parenting going on?

Is your Mesh subdivided enough to deform correctly?

How far away are the Mesh and Lattice from the eyeball?

just to let you know. I’m not ignoring your advice and questions. Something has cropped up and I’ll be unable to concentrate on this for a few days. Many thanks.

OK, I did it with the assistance of this video tutorial and in short, this is how.

Three objects, in this instance - the Eye, a Lattice and the Head.

    • Subdivide and Smooth the Eye and the Head
    • Parent the Eye to a Lattice - Object (Keep Transform). Make it just big enough to encompass the Eye. Give it resolution U 10, V 1 , W 10. The Eye should be sitting on the V.
    • Add a Lattice Modifier to the Eye and select the Lattice as the Object.
    • Add a Shrinkwrap Modifier to the Lattice and select the Head as the Object - Wrap Method - Project, Snap Mode - On Surface, Axis - Y, Check both Negative and Positive.
    • Set Transform Pivot Point to 3D Cursor
    • Select the Head and move Cursor to Selected
    • Move the Eye around the Head with RR

But now I have a related issue. When I add a second eye in exactly the same fashion, it is skewed! I'll keep at ti :)

    Thanks all!

Are you selecting the whole setup and duplicating it? And then dragging it around or rotating it from the 3D cursor pivot? If so there might be a slight misalignment with the lattice and when you rotate if falls out of place maybe? Perhaps it's best to start the whole thing from scratch in the new place when you want it?

I thought up a hack which works, but I don't like it. I duplicated the head then attached the second eye as previously, then hid the head in the Viewport and Render. Yuk, but hey...

Might be that the Project Method in the Shrinkwrap is not the best choice...
