Drag and drop logo PNG into blender

Just an FYI, dragging and dropping the logo into Blender did not do anything (using a relatively fresh install of Blender 4.1) -- I had to enable the Import Images as Planes addon (Edit -> Preferences -> Add-ons -> search for Images as Planes) and then I was able to drag and drop to get the behavior shown in the lesson.

If anyone else also has issues, try the above steps!

    HI Patrick,

Enabling the Images As Planes Addon really shouldn't be necessary. In the video, Jonathan doesn't use it (the PNG gets imported as an Image (Empty), not as a Plane).

The Addon is great to have enabled, though. However, in Blender 4.2+ it is part of Blender itself (no longer an Addon) and is called Mesh Plane (under Add > Image).

Perhaps you're doing something wrong. Maybe you can post a screengrab video of your screen to see it all happen and we could spot what's happening.

CORE is designed for 4.2+. Some things are different. If you want to continue with 4.1 then you may want to follow this: https://cgcookie.com/courses/blender-mesh-modeling-bootcamp

Or if you're totally new then go thru this first: https://cgcookie.com/courses/fundamentals-of-3d-mesh-modeling-in-blender

Just be aware that in 4.0 they changed a lot of hot keys. https://developer.blender.org/docs/release_notes/4.0/keymap/#Sculpt.2C_Paint.2C_Grease_Pencil

Hello Marek. Yes of course, you can get your money back. I think you only have to write to the help desk, the button low to the right or maybe shoot an email to support@cgcookie.com.

Sorry to see you go, this truly is the best place to learn 3D.

Drag and drop did not work for me either initially using 4.2.9 LTS, but I was able to import the image by: shift + a > image > reference, and selecting the logo image.

I had this issue but had to actually unzip the files for it to work, maybe this is the problem?

Spot on Blake, i read through this comment section to find that was the only issue, not unzipping the folder before attempting to add the .png meant it would not do anything, as it doesn't read into the zip file at all, only takes what formats it recognises and uses them, so unzipping is always necessary

I know we can be hyper focused on learning and following along as perfectly as we can at this beginner stage, and in my case too, as i live with ADHD, i literally take note of all said and nothing that isnt most of the time, and cannot help that usually, but switching out of that mode into problem solving mode tends to fix that for me, if i feel i need to use it

Ive gotta say though, i didnt think of unzipping this time round, so completely missed my mistake until looking on here in the comments to see if anyone else had the same issue as me here

Another point i feel is important is that it might have been good to have that explained before starting this, but if all we ever do is get spoonfed every little piece then we are not relying on our own powers of observation and attempting to solve these things ourselves, and upgrade our own knowledge within Blender where we can...

...unzipping files and folders was something taught, just not in this course, so it is expected that we know these things already as file and folder structure and usable format conditions
