Hi there,
thanks for the great course! I encountered a slight issue when I activated the Boolean - the main object (body) dissapeared. I found this hint:
https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/213868/boolean-modifier-making-original-object-disappear
So I activated the function "fast" and it seems to fix the problem (but it doesn't really look like in your tutorial, it cut out a pretty nice shape). Can anyone explain why the main object disappears in the first place? (the body isn't joined to any other object but I parented the body switch to the body. Can this cause issues like that?)
Best wishes!
It's just one of those things the boolean does, it misbehaves a lot and any little thing in the mesh sets it off. It's too hard to predict when the boolean will act up, so don't worry too much about it. You change a setting or two, move things around a bit and when it snaps and works well, you thank the boolean gods for a good boolean operation and move on. It's what we all do. Can you post some screenshots to see your result? You can also put a screenshot of the tutorial so we can see how it compares.
Hey Label, as Omar said, this happens from time to time.
But to shed a bit more light on it, from my experiences in the past, there are certain 'edge cases' where the solver for the boolean operations gets confused / messes up. And instead of for example cutting a hole into the mesh you wanted it to, it does an 'inverse operation' where it deletes everything but the cookie cutter shape.
I used to solve this via either changing some settings, as Omar suggested, but found that sometimes this 'edgle case' can be avoided by simply shifting your cookie cutter mesh (in your linked post, the star) by a bit.
That is sometimes enough to get it working correctly, even if it means its not EXACTLY in the correct spot where you wanted it.
(Mind you I worked with this back in 2.79 so maybe its now caused by something different, but give that a go and let me know).
