Basic sculpting question

Hey there. Can someone tell me what setting I screwed up that is not allowing me to sculpt anything but (what seems to be) vertices? When I choose a bush (in this photo the scrape brush) I get a red cursor and the brush shows up the two corner vertices rather than allowing me to scrape the entire edge (ie024-03-06 100547.png chamfer). Sure it's something simple? Thanks024-03-06 100547.png

    Solution

Sculpting needs geometry to move and push vertices, so you need a lot of resolution to see any movement in the mesh, if it's very low res it wont do anything. In other words yes, it moves vertices, not faces or edges. You can add a SubD modifier and crank up the levels or a multiresolution modifier. Or you can turn on Dynamic topology which creates geometry on the fly.

Ahhh, but of course...makes total sense why I just saw this now when dabbling with sculpting in hard surface and never see issue when working with organic shapes (spheres, etc.). Thanks, Omar!
