Question about video

posted to: Intro to Textures

At 1:15 - 1:19, JL plugs in the Image Texture for what looks to me like the Shader Ball (it's selected in the outliner) yet all the objects take on the Image texture.  How is it possible to do this without all the others selected?  Just curious.  Am I missing something?

    HI wwrongwright ,

Without watching the video, I'd say that what happens is, they are all using the same Material, so if you change that Material, all Objects that use that Material, change.

As I am new-ish and don't know all the ins and outs, it does make sense when you think of it like that. I can only look at the video from a literal, most beginner-y point of view and try to follow along.  I did end up assigning, one by one the same Image Texture.  I will assume he had done this previous to capturing for video and simply  reconnected the nodes and turned it all back on.

Thank for tackling this question.  I felt silly asking but it was curious to me and I hadn't thought about them sharing.  Haha...Just looked back at the video and there are 5 users for the materials.  This making total sense now.  Learn something new everyday.

      "Learn something new everyday."

After more than 12 years of using Blender (almost) daily, I still learn something new everyday😊
