You mean have a light that affects a certain object but then it doesn't affect any other object of your choosing? Say for example a light is influencing a whole scene but there's this one object you don't like what the light is doing to it and you want to exclude that object from the light's influence? V-Ray has ages with that option and it has never been in Blender as far as I know. I hope that light linking stuff does that.
