Issue uploading images to the forum.

Is anyone else having issues uploading images to the forum? I am trying to upload a new image to my existing DEVLOG thread here : https://cgcookie.com/community/12249-colourblind-a-point-and-click-adventure-game-devlog-and-wip-thread/edit , but If I upload a small GIF , it says "uploading" in the dropdown box and then immediately kicks me to the CGC homepage when it gets to 100% , and if I try to upload any PNG images , it comes up with an error saying that I can only upload PNG, BMP , JPG or GIF.... even though it is definitely a PNG (I've tried with several different ones)

I would post screenshots of the various errors I am encountering but it wont let me do that either.....

Hey Matthew, we believe there may be a bug in displaying .gifs on the site, though it may be related to the updated file size limit of 5MB.

If the images are over this size, it's not failing gracefully at the moment. If you're able to compress them and kick them up to try again let me know.

I've had luck with this site to crunch things, if Photoshop is not accessible.

Hi Wes , thanks for the quick reply. The GIF was 4.8mb in size as I had already made sure it was under the limit and it still kicked me back to the homepage upon uploading.

As for the error saying I can only "upload PNG, BMP , JPG or GIF" - this is happening with any PNG file I try no matter how small.

    • Ah okay

frikkr would you be able to email me the .png you're having trouble with to wes@cgcookie.com? I was able to upload a .png above. We did fix an image upload bug earlier this evening that may have fixed that for you.

Hi @wesburke , the .PNG files are now uploading but I am still having issues with GIFs - it keeps kicking me back to the homepage once it uploads. Here is a video of what is happening. You can see in it that the GIF works fine , is definitely a GIF filetype and is under the 5mb limit.

That's great to hear about .pngs. We made an adjustment on our end through our proxy. In brief, you could upload PNGs just fine from http://cgcookie.mavenseed.com, though had troubles when through http://cgcookie.com

Re: GIFs - this is a known issue we're working on a solution. 👍

Just an update to hopefully help you with your forum issues @wesburke - It is now kicking me back to the homepage when I upload ANYTHING to a post - JPG , PNG , BMP and GIFs are all doing the same.

frikkr Herm, that's really strange, almost feels like it's a random intermittent issue. Every time I go to test here it's letting me upload images. I'm seeing others create topics with forum images (no GIFs) as of yet. When you experience this next time, could you please let me know if you have it happen both on http://cgcookie.mavenseed.com vs http://cgcookie.com We're still doing some refining of our Proxy, which I suspect may be playing with this.

    Appreciate the patience!

@wesburke , I can confirm that it happens with both of those addresses. It wont let me upload any filetype to my DEVLOG thread without kicking me back to the homepage. Strangely enough , it only happens when I edit an existing thread... If I start a new topic/thread , I can upload them fine. Maybe its something to with the thread having been created on the old site?  I am using google Chrome on Windows 10 if it helps any. Thanks!

Hey Matthew, by chance are you able to record a video of it happening (whole browser window) and email it over to me at wes@cgcookie.com?

One theory is that GoogleCaptcha v3 is for some reason catching your account during submission, but we really cannot find a reason for it.

If you haven't already, are you able to try in a different web browser to see if the same behavior continues?
  • Matthew Fricker(frikkr) replied

@wesburke - Video sent to your email. I've also just tried editing this particular post , and it does exactly the same when I try to add an image - so it would seem that it is going to happen with any post I try to edit.

    • Thanks! 🙏

Thanks, and same behavior with a different browser as well?

Yes @wesburke , exact same behaviour in MS Edge , which is also shown in the video.

Okay, thanks. I don't see the video yet in my inbox.

Edit: Just sent a dropbox file request to your email address. Just in case my email is nuking the file.
