Ctrl + L problem

https://youtu.be/Am0BUzq3C7I   How can I avoid plank spinning after Link data (ctrl +L) ?

    Hi vaivada.

That is a very important question, but a bit tricky to explain.

Every Object has an Origin, but that Origin is not just a point, but actually a whole 3D coordinate system!

Here are two Planes with rotated Origins, but with the same Object Data (where the Vertices are, look at the information in the Spreadsheet Editor):

When you Apply the Rotation (which you should (almost) never  do), this happens:

    Linking2.png

Now the position of the Vertices is different for the two Planes, so when you now link the Object Data, one of them will appear to rotate.

The same thing would happen if you rotate in Edit Mode (you'd change the position of the Vertices!).

There are (pretty complicated) ways to fix this, but you should go back and redo the lid and never make this mistake again.

And while we're at it; (almost) always  Apply the Scale!
