Baking only gives me fully black image, what am i doing wrong?

I followed the instructions to a t, but it still gives me a black image. Any ideas what i might be doing wrong or which setting i might have forgotten to change?

I do use the "diffuse BSDF" to bake as he said in the video.

Can you post a screenshot of your Shader Editor (at least, the whole UI would be even better...).

I hope you can see everything you need to see

uuesomat I haven't baked shadows before, but I think it is, because you don't have the Image Texture Node, that you want to bake to, selected. You can't bake to a Colorramp ;)

i tried it with the selcted Texture Node, with the Diffuse Node selsected (as in the video), nothing changes. I do have a sun light in the scene so that is not the problem here. When i bake it combined it gives me some light pixels on the right side of the baked image.

This is what is essential for baking:

If you could provide a link to your .blend file (via Dropbox, or Googledrive, or so...), I will have a look, because apart from the fact that you didn't have the Image Node selected, I can't find anything wrong in your screenshot.

This Link should lead you to the .blend file. I continued without the bake 'til the end.

    Bakes perfectly fine:

Look at the outlined Image Texture Node, that means it is selected.

    Doesn't bake for me:

If selecting the image texture node is the only thing you did and it bakes for you that means...something has to be wrong with my hardware? Maybe the GPU cant handle it? That would be weird but who knows

  • uesomat replied

IT WORKED. I switched from GPU Compute to CPU and then it worked! Who would have guessed that it is in fact the GPU that can't handle it. It's a Radeon RX 5700 with 8GB...and it cant even bake a shadow...

  • spikeyxxx replied

    Glad you got it working!

I can't use my GPU, because it is too old...didn't think about that.

But that sounds like a good GPU, that should be able to handle that; are your drivers up to date?

  • spikeyxxx replied

    Are you using Optix?

  • uesomat replied

Im not using OptiX, im using OpenCL. But the driver was not up to date. I had one from 10.03.2021 or 3/10/21 [whereever you are from :) ]. The most recent one is from today. With that driver it works with GPU Compute...PCs are wierd.
