I think it is better to talk more about that pose mode?
After selecting your rig you can switch to pose mode.

you have to have bones/armature, present/selected, in the blend file before pose mode appears as an option
Have your bones selected before you switch. You can either switch with the drop down at the top left or with cntrl + tab which will give you a wheel sorta thing.
