Rendered in Blender 2.63, using the Blender Render.
I used some NASA-images for the earth and added a star-picture of the Hubble-telescope for the background. I think it's not looking realistic that way but more interesting and Sci-Fi-like. I also added some asteroids using the displacement-modifier and a particle-system.
