Fire in Cycles Final

Backstory: For a project that I am currently working on, I would like to render some fire, and my render engine of choice would preferably be cycles as Blender Internal fire sim hates me. The images above are from a test scene... I used a particle system with a lot of icospheres, and wrote a script in the OSL which provides a blackbody radiation distribution to the surface, with the temperature scaled by radial distance from the position of each particle. It also generates the alpha masks used to fade it out. The end results are rather cartoonish, and although the scene I am working on is cartoonish, I would like a touch more realism. So, if there is anybody out there who is working on something similar and would be keen to share ideas (or has something altogether much better!)... I would love to hear from you. a) blender rendered view... @27 samples b) test scene render c) same as b) + some compositing (quick and nasty) d) aborted early test render, with thick noxious smoke...
