Hey ! that's my entry for the contest, so a bit of backstory :)
He is Cupid from the latin novel Metamorphoses, after he has been burned from Psyche , Cupid run away and find himself betrayed and alone. form here on Cupid feeling become worse and worse till he decided to take off his own heart. This make him blind e feel less to the point he asked Pluto to take off his arms and give him demon's arms with he can bring the same feeling he has felt to other people by touching their heart and make it black.
