in the first live stream video henry darnell spoke also about how real world sculpting applies to digital and vice versa,,, and that inspired me to show you a wood carving i made, to emphasis this point, and what is sculpt cookie about. it is about sculpting, in what ever medium we choose, zbrush, blender, modo, clay, wood, stone,,, it is about creating forms from "nothing",,, only the methods differ a little, depending on the chosen medium...
this arabian mare was first concepted in artist oil based clay, as it is called in germany, shown in small image 1, then roughed out from a block of linden wood in image 2 using only classical hand tools (=chisels, gouges and mallet), images 3 and 4 show how it progresses using the clay sculpt as a visual guideline,,,, this visual aid was important, as in carving you always can only substract but not add, so better you not cut off accidentially a leg... the big part of the image shows a composite of two views of the finished carving...
