Hi, when I use the perspective views, I don’t see perspective lines. Instead I see a straight on flat view of the cube. How would I fix that?

It seems that orbiting with the mouse helped fix it (middle mouse + click drag). Otherwise I was getting a similar view with perspective and orthographic views. Switching between ortho and pespective several times fixed it at other times too.

Are you by chance using a keymap preset other than Blender’s default? Say Maya or 3DS Max? If so then you’ll need to check which key combos those presets use for navigation.

It’s version 2.73 in the video. Nothing in these lessons has really changed, though, so you should find the experience identical in the current 2.78.

This is super quiet compared to the other stuff on my computer, could you maybe turn it up? I could obviously turn up my volume, but then I’d have to adjust it back down when I’m done.

Sorry about that. Are you finding this lesson (or whole course) to be quieter than the other courses here on CG Cookie?

We’ve been working on equalizing the volume across the board, matching common volume standards.

When I press the number 7 on my keyboard, my cube disappears. How do I get it back?

Also, how do I go back to default view?

By default the top row of numbers change the viewport layers (also available from the viewport header in Object Mode: https://cl.ly/iMmg )

In order to change the views with the top row you’ll need to enable Emulate Numpad in User Preferences > Input.
