Hi I just started this course. i usually work with a drawing tablet for my 2D art, can it be a replacement for anything within the programme or do you strongly recommend the 3 key mouse?

Many people use Blender with a tablet. My recommendation is simply to enable Emulate 3 Button Mouse so you can then navigate with ALT+Pen click and drag.

I got the mouse thing figured out, but is there a way to zoom without a three button mouse? Or a mouse in general?

Most trackpads allow you to zoom with Two Finger scroll, or you can enable “Emulate 3-button mouse” via User Preferences > Input. Doing this will let you zoom by clicking and dragging while holding CTRL+ALT.

You can also zoom with the + and = keys on your keyboard, but being on a laptop you’ll likely need to enable “Emulate Numpad” via User Preferences > Input before they will work.

Do I have to have a mouse to be able to fully use Blender? I have a mousepad and a touchscreen on my laptop as of the moment

A mouse is not absolutely required but it is very recommended. You can work with a trackpad but you’ll like it find it much more tedious and slow than a mouse.

I am on a desktop-PC using a full keyboard with NUMPAD on the right hand-side. I get no response with the 1, 3, 5, 7 or period(.), when trying to change view-port selections. I followed your instructions from File>User Preferences>Inputs>Emulate NumPad. This is for laptops with the reduced key options. But this is the only way I can get my full keyboard with the right hand-side NumPad. To navigate scene views. Is there other settings or something I am missing, Thank you for your time.
