Robert Duvall as Augustus McCrae sketch portrait Final

Here's Gus McCrae in Lonesome Dove, played by Robert Duvall One of my 20 "familiar faces" portraits from Exercise 22 https://cgcookie.com/concept/2014/03/25/exercise-22-familiar-faces/ This took just over 2 hours. I am finding likeness less of a challenge to lock onto, as I am learning to lock onto a particular set of face parts that really define the uniqueness, and then work outward from there. But I still sometimes fall into the trap of building a proportion relating to 2-3 shapes (ie, height between nose and mouth and mouth and chin compared to width of nose and mouth) then continuing because they "look okay" but they're not good enough. They don't provide a solid anchor for a likeness, and then it throws off my other facial parts that are being compared to those. Bah! So I try to nail down a few particular shapes very strongly. That's tough, but it's my goal. Also, please note: I have a personal fondness for the sketchy-pencil-line look. I just like it, and I know it doesn't look as great as a well-rendered portrait with good values. Then again the objective of Exercise 22 is a likeness, not a highly polished portrait. Lonesome Dove is one of my favourite movies, and despite it being 6 hours long, I may have seen it as many as 10 times, or more with different family and friends through the years.
