This project served as research and development for a tutorial course I'm producing for CG Cookie. Everything was created with Blender: Sculpting (including stamp textures), texture painting, hair, clothing simulation, and rendering. The only non-Blender aspect is the HDRI's courtesy of hdrihaven.com.
Look for the course to be published here in the future!

wow, this is really great work, al those details :D
i do hope to see the course soon, looking at this work gets me exited about it :D. will it be a full course ? like start from scratch with sculpting, retopology, rigging , texturing etc ?
I keep coming back to look at this piece. It is really so amazing. Reeeeaaaally hoping this is going to be the basis of a whopping huge course. :D
Amazing Kent! Is there any course to approach similar techniques? Thanks
I wish I would have seen this when I just started out. Back then I used Blender only and when I saw art like this I thought it was so good because the artist used Zbrush, Arnold, Mari etc. This would've made me realize that it's not about expensive software (even though blender is great).
Incredible work Kent!
awesome!!!!
Absolutely amazing
Cheers!
This is spectacular work!
I like that you can zoom in quite a bit, and the sculpt still looks great, and realistic.
The lighting of the gray / spotlight scenes, in particular, really sell the realism. I particularly like the head on shot. The city scene looks good too.
The bright blue background is so unusual it seems more like CGI than the other scenes, in my opinion. Similar highlights in the city scene look good though, so it may just be the bright blue background, and a brighter lighting overall, making it seem out of kilter to me.
A minor quibble in a series of great renders!
