At the start I wanted it to be a Viking boat sailing into a giant mist cloud. But After making a few test renders I realized there wasn't a very good focal point(And I'm bad at volumetrics lol), So I started to make a volcano,
I made a volcano added some grass, But It wasn't "Folklore" enough.
But I wanted to stick to the volcano/magma rock And I liked the orangish glow, So I made a rocky dragon's mouth and made it look like a cave, added a bunch of seaweed and rocks onto it to help out with the realism. I had previously had trouble with getting the lighting I wanted, so I got an Hdri and added some volumetrics to help with the mood. After I did a few test renders I still didn't really have a focal point, I tried making the inside of the mouth glow with lava but it didn't add the brightness I wanted, I then found out about glow worms which made me think about glowing crystals, After another render, I still needed more glow, So I just used the light path node so I didn't make the crystals glow completely white but I would still get the glow distance I wanted.
I learned a lot with this render and had a lot of fun, Getting the water right was the hardest because I hadn't ever done an ocean before, but making the seaweed really help out, (Even if you can't really see it lol)
Took me about 15-20 days (Can't remember when I started but It was the day of the challenge)
Probably about 100+ hours of work
