mmasta I painted the textures following Kent's tutorial at https://cgcookie.com/lesson/painting-the-feather-textures but using GIMP instead of Photoshop. It's working with alpha and bump textures.

duerer that indeed is true, best way to find out is just by trying it out :D
yyukinoh1989 I can hardly tell how many hours it took me because I had to experiment when transfering the instructions from Blender 2.6x as used in the videos to Blender 2.8. I've written down my experiences in my comments to the lesson videos. For painting the feather textures in GIMP instead of Photoshop, I had to develop my own technique (which I've written down in a document). This is a marathon, not a sprint, but you will learn the whole workflow from modeling to the final animation. So, the path is the goal 😉. I still need to animate Piero this year.

how long did it took you to get from the start to this point ? (in hours ) kinda am curious , i know if i follow it wont be the same but i do wonder +- how long it took
